Summary 1: (First page)

At the "welcome to our school!" ceremony, Hades was like "Bitches, please! you ain't gonna open this school! I ain't gonna letcha so close it down before i do!" And then Zeus was like "KK, so everyone get to the common room so that you don't panic and whatevs.

So everyone went to the common room and Doug said "let's all play a game!"

Sator decided to flirt with Victoria who was like "Bitch! You ain't gon touch this! None you boyz evah gonna touch this!" and then Siren decided to flirt with her.

So Doug was like "Let's all say who we izz, who our 'rentz be, and somethang ineresting about ourselvezz" and all the peeps began to play.

There's also gonna be a dance that will end real badly (YAY!!) and everyone is encouraged to find a date.

So Siren was like "Yo yo, Victoria! You wanna be my date to da dance?" and victoria was like, "Umm, cha!"

And Sator was like, "Yo seth! Wuzzap??" And then Sapphira was all like "Yo, dat be ma roomie, is you botherin' him? Hey, anyone wanna be my date for the dance????" and Seth was like, "...no." And she was like T-T and walked away.

that pretty much wraps it up!

HGTV Responds to the House Hunters ?Scandal?

Wow. All I can say is that I didn?t mean to cause such a ruckus. I?m a long-time HGTV viewer who just thought it was interesting to hear how the popular show House Hunters is made. I?d written other posts on the topic like The Truth About House Hunters and The Truth About Designed to Sell over the years, and at this point I didn?t imagine anyone would be really surprised to learn that some things are faked for TV.

When I shared the Jensen family?s story, I saw it as an eye-opening look behind the scenes. But a shocking expose? A scandal?

Apparently for some people it was. Those were the words used when the story spread all over the Internet this week, popping up on Yahoo!, A.V. Club, Time, Huffington Post, the Washington Post, you name it. I lost track.

I was interviewed for an article in USA Today. Readers reported hearing about it on the radio and seeing it on TV, too, including CNN, Fox & Friends, and The Today Show. Bobi was interviewed for a segment on Good Morning America and Inside Edition, among others. My head is spinning.

HGTV responded with a statement (first printed in EW?s ?House Hunters Scandal!?):

We?ve learned that the pursuit of the perfect home involves big decisions that usually take place over a prolonged period of time ? more time than we can capture in 30 minutes of television.

However, with a series like House Hunters, HGTV viewers enjoy the vicarious and entertaining experience of choosing a home ? from establishing a budget, to touring properties and weighing the pros and cons of each one.

We?re making a television show, so we manage certain production and time constraints, while honoring the home buying process. To maximize production time, we seek out families who are pretty far along in the process.

Often everything moves much more quickly than we can anticipate, so we go back and revisit some of the homes that the family has already seen and we capture their authentic reactions.

Because the stakes in real estate are so high, these homeowners always find themselves RIGHT back in the moment, experiencing the same emotions and reactions to these properties.

Showcasing three homes makes it easier for our audience to ?play along? and guess which one the family will select. It?s part of the joy of the House Hunters viewing experience. Through the lens of television, we can offer a uniquely satisfying and fun viewing experience that fulfills a universal need to occasionally step into someone else?s shoes.

So there you have it. They don?t deny it.

Keep in mind that they have never really tried to hide it. They have explained this process openly in the press before, and there are multiple similar accounts from other past participants that have been out there for years. I didn?t think I was breaking any kind of big story when I shared Bobi?s.

It?s just that now everyone seems to be listening.

I have been asked repeatedly this week whether knowing the truth will make me stop watching the show. Well, I have known about it for years and still watch when I come across it on TV. It?s fun to try to figure out which house is the ?real? one when you know how it works behind the scenes.

Since Monday I have been deluged with two kinds of emails: those from readers who are furious with me ?for ruining it for millions of people!? as one put it, and those from other people who have participated in HH and shows like it and have their own eyebrow-raising stories to tell. (Maybe I?ll share some of those with you someday, but let?s just say this type of thing goes far beyond House Hunters.)

Come to think of it, there was a third type of message I got a lot of, and that was from readers who emailed, tweeted, and left me links on my Facebook page whenever they saw my blog being name-checked somewhere. I love that so many of you were looking out for me. It?s been a rollercoaster of a week, and I?m glad you were along for the ride! -Julia

P.S. Bobi is telling more of her story and about her crazy week at her blog Western Warmth. I just have to say she?s been an amazingly good sport about this whole thing. She got way more than she bargained for when she agreed to talk to me. Thanks again, Bobi!

Facebook CTO to leave in first senior-level exit

By Reuters

Facebook Inc's chief technology officer, Bret Taylor, is departing "sometime this summer" to start his own company, in the first exit of a high-profile executive since the social networking company's IPO on May 18.?

In an announcement on his Facebook page verified by a company spokesman, Taylor said he will be starting up a new company with Kevin Gibbs, a senior Google Inc engineer, according to his Facebook profile.?

The news was first reported by AllThingsD.?

"While a transition like this is never easy, I'm extremely confident in the teams and leadership we have in place," Taylor said on his page. "I'm very proud of our recent accomplishments in our platform and mobile products, from Open Graph and App Center to Facebook Camera and our iOS integration. I'm even more excited for the world to see all the amazing things these teams have coming."?

Facebook girds for battle over investor lawsuits?

Some investors had speculated that Facebook would have trouble holding onto key talent following its IPO, which created many millionaires among its ranks.?

Facebook executive Mike Vernal will take over the platform division, one of Taylor's key jobs. Cory Ondrejka will take over mobile, a source familiar with the situation confirmed.?

"I've really enjoyed working with Bret and getting to know him as a friend and teammate," said Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg in a statement. ?

Facebook goes all-out to prove its ads work?

"I'm grateful for all he has done for Facebook and I'm proud of what he and his teams have built. I'm also proud that we have a culture where great entrepreneurs like Bret join us and have such a big impact."?

Many high-profile Facebook executives have left the company since its founding in 2004, including Taylor's predecessor as CTO, Dustin Moskovitz. He left Facebook in 2008 with his colleague Jason Rosenstein to form a social-networking company for business called Asana.?

Moskovitz, a onetime Harvard roommate of Zuckerberg, had been with the company since its earliest days.?

Another former roommate of Zuckerberg's, Chris Hughes, also left a few years ago and coordinated online organizing for Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign. Now, he is publisher of the New Republic magazine.?

Nasdaq faces years of litigation over botched IPO?

Dave Morin, who joined Facebook in 2008, left in 2010 to found another social network, Path. Facebook alumni Adam D'Angelo and Charlie Cheever left in 2009 to start Quora, their question-and-answer company.?

Matt Cohler, who joined Facebook from LinkedIn early in 2005, joined venture capital firm Benchmark Capital in 2008. His investments there include Asana and Quora.?

Chris Kelly, Facebook's chief privacy officer, left in 2010 to run unsuccessfully for attorney general of California.?

Facebook shares closed at $30.01 on Friday, up 1.7 percent.?

Question by : How to travel from Rome to Venice and then to Switzerland?
Hi,
I intend to travel from Rome to Venice and then to Switzerland (whichever city is the most suitable to get into Swiss). Can somebody advice how do I go about this trip? The prices from rome to venice by train italia seems to be pretty expensive.

I am looking for the cheapest way of transport ? please advice.

Secondly, we have a party fo 6 adults and 1 child. Is there any apartment sort of accomodation which works cheaper than hotels in these countries ? Italy and Switzerland?

Any other travel advice on Italy travel will be appreciated. Thanks.

It?s been a long time since I made this trip and obviously prices are not the same. If you buy a Eurail pass prior to leaving through a travel agent you will save a lot of money. You will be able to travel first class on the trains between Rome and Switzerland and will have cars that have fold down seats that turn into beds. Your plane will land in Rome but from there you will go to Venice and then have to double back through Rome. I recommend you go to Lucerne Switzerland. Here are two sidetrips to take: From Rome take the train to Pompeii to see the ruins. It?s a day trip. From Lucern take a day trip by train to Grendowald. Grendowald is a ski resort where their Olympic skiers train. It?s a quaint ski resort.I recommend youth hostels for accomodations. You will probably need to get three rooms. Thre rooms will be basic but clean. Most of these places offer a ?continental breakfast? which is no more than hard rolls, stong coffee, and butter. Google backpacking through Europe. I used a book writen by a guy named Arthur Frohmer but he has since passed away. Feel free to contact me if I can help you further.

Data from NASA's Voyager 1 point to interstellar future

ScienceDaily (June 15, 2012) ? Data from NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft indicate that the venerable deep-space explorer has encountered a region in space where the intensity of charged particles from beyond our solar system has markedly increased. Voyager scientists looking at this rapid rise draw closer to an inevitable but historic conclusion -- that humanity's first emissary to interstellar space is on the edge of our solar system.

"The laws of physics say that someday Voyager will become the first human-made object to enter interstellar space, but we still do not know exactly when that someday will be," said Ed Stone, Voyager project scientist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. "The latest data indicate that we are clearly in a new region where things are changing more quickly. It is very exciting. We are approaching the solar system's frontier."

The data making the 16-hour-38 minute, 11.1-billion-mile (17.8-billion-kilometer), journey from Voyager 1 to antennas of NASA's Deep Space Network on Earth detail the number of charged particles measured by the two High Energy telescopes aboard the 34-year-old spacecraft. These energetic particles were generated when stars in our cosmic neighborhood went supernova.

"From January 2009 to January 2012, there had been a gradual increase of about 25 percent in the amount of galactic cosmic rays Voyager was encountering," said Stone. "More recently, we have seen very rapid escalation in that part of the energy spectrum. Beginning on May 7, the cosmic ray hits have increased five percent in a week and nine percent in a month."

This marked increase is one of a triad of data sets which need to make significant swings of the needle to indicate a new era in space exploration. The second important measure from the spacecraft's two telescopes is the intensity of energetic particles generated inside the heliosphere, the bubble of charged particles the sun blows around itself. While there has been a slow decline in the measurements of these energetic particles, they have not dropped off precipitously, which could be expected when Voyager breaks through the solar boundary.

The final data set that Voyager scientists believe will reveal a major change is the measurement in the direction of the magnetic field lines surrounding the spacecraft. While Voyager is still within the heliosphere, these field lines run east-west. When it passes into interstellar space, the team expects Voyager will find that the magnetic field lines orient in a more north-south direction. Such analysis will take weeks, and the Voyager team is currently crunching the numbers of its latest data set.

"When the Voyagers launched in 1977, the space age was all of 20 years old," said Stone. "Many of us on the team dreamed of reaching interstellar space, but we really had no way of knowing how long a journey it would be -- or if these two vehicles that we invested so much time and energy in would operate long enough to reach it."

Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 and 2 are in good health. Voyager 2 is more than 9.1 billion miles (14.7 billion kilometers) away from the sun. Both are operating as part of the Voyager Interstellar Mission, an extended mission to explore the solar system outside the neighborhood of the outer planets and beyond. NASA's Voyagers are the two most distant active representatives of humanity and its desire to explore.

The Voyager spacecraft were built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., which continues to operate both. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology. The Voyager missions are a part of the NASA Heliophysics System Observatory, sponsored by the Heliophysics Division of the Science Mission Directorate in Washington.

Citigroup Charges To $36, Bets Big On India's Credit Card Market

?

Citigroup

Citigroup (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Citigroup seems eager to expand its presence in the growing Indian financial market, with plans to significantly expand its credit-card business in the Asian economy. [] The global financial giant intends to add a million new customers within the next three years, in an attempt to capture up to 6% share in the fledgling market.

The India growth plans are a welcome change for Citigroup, which has primarily been focused on cutting down operations around the world in the aftermath of the economic downturn of 2008. This move by Citigroup is also the first by a major global bank to expand retail banking services in India since 2008 with many competitors like Barclays, UBS and JPMorgan scaling down retail and private banking operations in recent years.

We maintain a $36 price estimate for Citigroup?s stock, which is about 30% above its current market price and is result of a loss in investor confidence due to the deteriorating debt situation in Europe.

See our full analysis of Citigroup here

The Indian Growth Story Has A Lot To Offer Credit Card Companies

The $1.7 trillion Indian economy saw people spend nearly 1.5 trillion rupees ($27 billion) through credit cards, debit cards and pre-paid cards in 2011. [] Industry estimates peg the country?s personal consumption figures to nearly double by 2015 ? signifying a 20% annual growth in coming years. [] Card spending is estimated to grow at a higher pace than this, as the biggest share of the total spending would be from the emerging affluent population which would likely grow to 20 million over the same period.

And Citigroup Is Well Poised To Grab A Big Share of This Market

The Indian credit card market is dominated by local players who have established a stronghold by diversifying their service offerings to customers over the years. Citigroup accounts for less than 5% of the country?s credit card market, but has the advantage of being perceived as a banking organization for the affluent because of its higher fee structure compared to local competitors. This will clearly give it the advantage as India?s affluent population begins to swell.

Citi had about 3.2 million credit cards in circulation in India pre-2008. This figure shrunk to about 2.2 million early this year. The bank?s current plans should allow it to bring the number of credit cards in circulation back to the pre-2008 level, helping it gain up to 6% of the market share over the next 2 years.

Researchers watch tiny living machines self-assemble

ScienceDaily (June 10, 2012) ? Enabling bioengineers to design new molecular machines for nanotechnology applications is one of the possible outcomes of a study by University of Montreal researchers that was published in Nature Structural and Molecular Biology June 10. The scientists have developed a new approach to visualize how proteins assemble, which may also significantly aid our understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, which are caused by errors in assembly.

"In order to survive, all creatures, from bacteria to humans, monitor and transform their environments using small protein nanomachines made of thousands of atoms," explained the senior author of the study, Prof. Stephen Michnick of the university's department of biochemistry. "For example, in our sinuses, there are complex receptor proteins that are activated in the presence of different odor molecules. Some of those scents warn us of danger; others tell us that food is nearby." Proteins are made of long linear chains of amino acids, which have evolved over millions of years to self-assemble extremely rapidly -- often within thousandths of a split second -- into a working nanomachine. "One of the main challenges for biochemists is to understand how these linear chains assemble into their correct structure given an astronomically large number of other possible forms," Michnick said.

"To understand how a protein goes from a linear chain to a unique assembled structure, we need to capture snapshots of its shape at each stage of assembly said Dr. Alexis Vall?e-B?lisle, first author of the study. "The problem is that each step exists for a fleetingly short time and no available technique enables us to obtain precise structural information on these states within such a small time frame. We developed a strategy to monitor protein assembly by integrating fluorescent probes throughout the linear protein chain so that we could detect the structure of each stage of protein assembly, step by step to its final structure."

The protein assembly process is not the end of its journey, as a protein can change, through chemical modifications or with age, to take on different forms and functions. "Understanding how a protein goes from being one thing to becoming another is the first step towards understanding and designing protein nanomachines for biotechnologies such as medical and environmental diagnostic sensors, drug synthesis of delivery," Vall?e-B?lisle said.

This research was supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and Le fond de recherch? du Qu?bec, Nature et Technologie. The article, "Visualizing transient protein folding intermediates by tryptophan scanning mutagenesis," published in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, was coauthored by Alexis Vall?e-B?lisle and Stephen W. Michnick of the D?partement de Biochimie de l'Universit? de Montr?al. The University of Montreal is known officially as Universit? de Montr?al.

(AP) ? Bryce Salvador scored on a deflection off a defenseman and the New Jersey Devils derailed Los Angeles' Stanley Cup coronation for a second time, beating the Kings 2-1 in Game 5 of the finals Saturday night.

Zach Parise ended a five-game goal drought on a rare mistake by goalie Jonathan Quick, and Martin Brodeur stopped 25 shots to help the Devils end the Kings' 10-game postseason winning streak on the road and 12-game run over the past two years, both NHL records.

Justin Williams scored for the Kings, whose once seemingly insurmountable 3-0 series lead has been cut to 3-2. Game 6 on Monday night in Los Angeles.

More importantly, the Devils have the Kings wondering what's going for the first time in the postseason.

This marks the first time they have lost consecutive games this postseason, and the Devils are halfway up a mountain that only one other NHL team has climbed in the finals after losing the first three games.

Only the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs came back in a best-of-seven finals and won. Three years later, the Detroit Red Wings rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the series, but they lost Game 7 to Toronto.

The Kings haven't played terribly in losing the last two games, but the Devils have made the plays when it counted or gotten the breaks when they needed them.

Take Salvador's winner, his first goal in seven games. His shot from the left point was deflected right in front of Quick, hit off the chest of Kings defenseman Slava Voynov and rebounded into the net at 9:05 of the second period. It was the second time in this series that a point shot by a Devils defenseman hit off Voynov and caromed past his goaltender.

This one turned out to be a winner because Brodeur stood tall the rest of the way and had one shot hit off the goalpost and had a goal by Jarret Stoll on a second-period power play waved off because he hit the rebound with his stick too high.

Brodeur's biggest save might have been with 7.6 seconds to go in regulation when he stopped a slap shot by Mike Richards from the right circle.

James Eastham on PSA testing and prostate cancer risk ? THE ...

Posted on by Sitemaster

Dr. James Eastham is a highly respected and specialized prostate cancer surgeon who works at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. In an interview just published on the OncologySTAT web site, he talks about his views on the appropriate application of the PSA test today in assessment of risk for prostate cancer and management of low-risk disease.

Access to the OncologySTAT web site is free, but you do have to sign up to belong to the site.

Dr. Eastham, like The ?New? Prostate Cancer InfoLink, discriminates very carefully between mass screening of all men on an annual basis, and careful identification and regular testing of those men who are clearly at heightened risk for prostate cancer. Also like The ?New? Prostate Cancer InfoLink, he appears to clearly understand both why the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force came to and made the recommendation it has issued and the fact that, for men at heightened risk for clinically significant prostate cancer, a blanket, mindless acceptance of that recommendation is about as smart as going swimming with Great White sharks while bleeding from an open wound.

We stated in yesterday morning?s post that we believe that the AUA is being encouraged to modify its recommendations about the use of the PSA test by a ?new generation? of opinion leaders. It is clear to us that Dr. Eastham is one of those who is fully behind a more careful and selective application of PSA testing in the greatest interests of those who need early diagnosis and of those who need to avoid risk for over-diagnosis and over-treatment.

Stiglitz on Europe: Soros Is ?Being Generous ... - Yahoo! Finance

Follow The Daily Ticker on Facebook!

George Soros made headlines Sunday when he said the European Union is "like a bubble" and predicted EU "authorities have a three-month window during which they could still correct their mistakes and reverse the current trends."

Three months does not seem like a long time but Soros is "being generous," says Columbia Professor and Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz. "They don't get how acute the crisis is," he says of EU policymakers. "They don't understand the dynamics of market forces."

Take the European Central Bank, for example. On Wednesday, the ECB declared it was "ready to act" but took no actual action to address the crisis, which has clearly infected Spain. The day before the ECB stood pat, Spain's Treasury Minister Cristobal Montoro essentially said his country was at risk of being shut out of the capital markets.

On Wednesday, concerns about such issues took a backseat and stocks surged amid rumblings about Germany being more open to a European banking union, which Stiglitz says is the "only solution" to address the crisis.

"You cannot rely on the Spanish government to bail out the Spanish banks," he says. "It has to be a European banking system with European finance backing up all the European banks. They're not there yet."

In the absence of a European banking union, Stiglitz says there's no rational reason for Spaniards to leave money in Spanish banks when they can move them to stronger German banks. That creates a "vicious cycle," he says. "Europe needs a European financial system. If they don't do that, the system falls apart fairly quickly."

The good news is EU leaders seem to be coming around to this idea, however grudgingly in the case of Germany's Angela Merkel. In addition, Spain had a successful bond offering Thursday morning.

European markets were modestly higher in reaction and U.S. futures pointed higher after Wednesday's big rally. But this reprieve may prove short-lived if EU leaders don't make serious progress at their summit later this month.

Europe has been doing "just enough to keep things going" so far, Stiglitz says. "The question is: are they at the point where there's no extra dose of medicine that can keep it going? I think they're almost there."

PDP Afterglow 2.0 controllers and stereo wireless headset hands-on

PDP Afterglow deluxe edition controllers and wireless headset hands and earson

Here at E3, PDP is showing off a handful of new gaming accessories for those looking to jump on the third-party bandwagon. The company has refreshed its line of Afterglow controllers that now sport a second edition label. Much like the previous models, the family will include accessories for PS3, Xbox 360 and two for Wii. The major difference that you'll notice is a portion of the peripherals is now black -- a bit of a departure from the clear interior-lit controllers that we've seen previously. In addition to the recharged versions of the Afterglow add-ons, the outfit also allowed us to go ears-on with a wireless stereo gaming headset that will sport the same illuminated moniker.

Here, you'll have your choice for either white or black (and then red, blue or green interiors) for the set of cans that provide a quite cozy fit -- thanks in part to the extra padding around the earcups. We gave them a spin with latest Call of Duty offering and were quite pleased with the sound quality, too. Three sound modes provide a bit of customization, allowing you to choose between pure audio, bass boost and 3D expander listening pre-sets. An LED on the tip of the unit's mic will keep you informed as to which selection you've made. Speaking of controls, all of the in-game adjustments that you'll need to make can be easily done from the left side. You can expect around 10 hours of gameplay on a single charge, an auxiliary jack for your mobile devices and connection to your console via USB dongle. When the headset arrives in September, it will set you back $89.95 and play nice with PS3, Xbox, Wii and PC. If you're still curious about further visual details, head for the gallery below and take a closer look.
